Driving to Inverness

Today Paul and I drove from Dundee to Inverness. But thanks to the wonderful Snee family, the drive wasn't boring. They gave us a bunch of places to stop along the way. Before we left though, we went to lunch with the Gellatly family. Here they have an amazing Indian buffet. Not Chinese food like you find all over in America, but Indian curries and naan. It was so great! We need something like that in Utah.

Our attempt at a selfie with the Snee family. They were so great to us!

Excited to start the car ride up to Inverness

The first stop we made was to Stanley Mills. It is an old textile mill. It was kind of intriguing to see what they looked like, and the conditions that all those children had to work in back then.

Stanley Mills from the outside. We thought it looked kinda like a concentration camp...

We made a small detour to a little village called Dunkeld. It's a cute little city with some great traditional Scottish architecture. We didn't really stop but we drove through the city centre and looked at all of the cute buildings.

I liked the turrets so I snapped a picture

After Dunkeld, we stopped at a hike called the Hermitage. It is a small little hike that goes to a river with a bridge and a really fun little waterfall. It was great to have a small exercise/stretch your legs hike.

I love arches, so Paul took a picture :)

The waterfall. Lots of trees in the way though.

Paul in deep thought

Our next stop was a little hydro electric dam. Supposedly you were able to see salmon jumping the river, but we didn't see any. We walked along the top of the dam and we also walked along a cool foot bridge.

This is the Dam view ;) I thought it was actually really pretty

This is looking from the top of the dam to the other side

While driving to Inverness we drove though the Cairn National Park. When I am used to red rock and arches it was hard to picture the Cairns as a National Park. But it has its own kind of beauty. We were driving on a single carriage motorway with no stopping so I couldn't get a great picture. I did get a few from the car though. We stopped for dinner at the first restaurant we saw. It was a legit fancy restaurant that takes reservations an everything. The restaurant was booked and said we could have a seat in 2 hours or we could sit at the bar. We decided to sit at the bar. It was so hillarious for us to sit there and not order anything to drink besides water. The bartender probably thought we were crazy. But it was kind of fun.

Another great view from the window

After dinner we finished our drive to the Wilson's house. Liz Wilson is a strong member in the Inverness ward. When we got to her home she wasn't there. We decided to drive around and try to see some of Paul's old contacts. Some how he was able to remember how to get to their flats. We visited with Bob Sutherland. Somehow he remembered Paul from 4 years ago. We also visited with Brother Stuart. He is very much less active chain smoker. Luckily we got there before he started his Friday night. Paul had fun hasseling him about the church for a little bit. We made our way back to Liz's house and got everything all settled for the night. Today has been long and great. Can't wait to see what these next few days will bring.
