Payson Lakes

The Burnett side of the family decided to take a short camping trip to Payson Lakes. Paul's family grew up going camping there, so it was a walk down memory lane for them. Paul and I hadn't taken Jace camping since he was really little and would co sleep with us. Now that he was in a crib, and really needs his own space to sleep we weren't sure how this trip was going to work. So we did a practice round in the back yard the day before we left. We set up Jace's pack and play in the tent, put him to bed, and then came and joined him, and it worked perfectly. He slept great! Until the sun came up anyway. I am so glad we did a test run just so I would know what to expect from him.
We got up to our camp spot and got our tent all set up. Jace was so excited. He loves to play in the tent. He thinks its like, the coolest thing ever, (we will see how long that lasts). Jace had a great time playing with his cousins also. We brought up a canoe to use on the lake, and we basically used it as our play pen for the little babes. We threw some toys in there, and plopped the kiddos in, and that was that. They actually played quite nicely for quite a few minutes, until they got stir crazy of course.
After dinner we went down to the lake and went canoeing for a little bit. Sage and Milo loved to be on the water! Jace liked it, but he also didn't like the life jacket and not being able to get up and wiggle around. Before bed we played never have I ever. It basically turned into a Burnett family teenage confession session. It was actually pretty fun to hear all about the secret things the Burnett Boys did when they were younger, and never told their parents until now. *tee hee*
The night was uneventful! Gratefully! Jace slept really well. He did wake up earlier than Paul and I were ready to be up though. So we just let him out of his crib and let him roam around the tent while Paul and I tried to get a little more shut eye. He ended up jumping on mom and dad, playing with his toys, making a mess of the tent, and getting crumbs all over the place. I think we maybe got a few extra minutes of sleep. Well maybe a little more than a few. All I remember is waking up and seeing book pages all over the tent from a book Jace had gotten ahold of!
That morning Julie and I went for a short little trail run.  We also had a nice, big, yummy breakfast. We spent the morning cleaning up camp, while some of us played around the lake. It was cold in the morning so we weren't quite sure if we were going to get in the water. But as the day progressed, and as we packed, it started to get warmer and warmer!! Jonathan, Shawnee, and Rex and Julie all needed to leave early for a wedding. The rest of us planned to stay and play in the water and then go shooting. Those of us that were staying got in our suits, and went to the lake. Paul and Peter did gunnel jumping out on the lake. It looked like so much fun that I convinced Jessica to come and do it with me. We took a long long LONG time practicing it to get it right, and to figure it out. Once we finally figured it out, we were too nice to each other to dump one another in the lake. We did end up dumping me in the lake, but after that Jessica actually wanted to get in, so we planned to "accidentally" fall in the lake. The water felt really nice after we actually got in.
By the time Jessica and I got back to shore all the kidlets were hungry and ready for lunch. We packed and loaded things up, and drove to a park in Payson. We made some yummy food, and spent a little time relaxing in the shade. Once we had finished lunch we drove west to find the shooting range. The boys had so much fun shooting their guns! I seriously thought of them as little kids in a candy store. Us girls got some good shooting in too, which was great. We played with guns until it started to rain on us. You should have seen how fast we got things loaded in to the car with the threat of rain hanging over our heads!

The play pen! Jace was in here at some point, but I am pretty sure this picture was taken before we got there. So he wasn't in it. But you can imagine 3 little kiddos just playing in a canoe. It was pretty great.

Rex went down to the lake before dinner to go fishing. Sage and Milo wanted to go too. So Aunt Shawnee and Uncle Jonathan took the boys down to the lake. They had fun for the first five minutes!

Just chillin at the lake for a little bit

The newly weds taking their nephews out on the lake. Sage and Milo behaved quite well.

After Jonathan and Shawnee came back in with the canoe, Paul and I took out Sage and Jace. Sage loved it. Jace didn't like the life vest. But he did like it when Paul paddled really fast!

A face shot, kind of
